The Theotokos of Kazan Icon (Russian: Казанская икона Божией Матери) is one of the most venerated icons of the Virgin Mary in the Orthodox Church. The Mother of God is shown half-figure, with the Christ Child at her right side. She tenderly gazes toward the viewer, while Christ blesses with His right hand and holds a scroll in His left — a symbol of divine wisdom and salvation.

Above the Virgin appear the Greek letters MP ΘΥ (Meter Theou), meaning “Mother of God,” and beside Christ are IC XC, the abbreviation for “Jesus Christ.” His halo bears the cross with Ω Ο Ν (Omega, Omicron, Nu) – “He Who Is,” affirming His divine nature.

The Kazan icon is known for its powerful intercession and is considered a protectress of families, nations, and the Orthodox faith. It became especially revered in Russia after miraculous discoveries in 1579 and has since been associated with deliverance, healing, and peace.
