Iconography & Symbolism
The Saint Veronica Icon depicts the pious woman who, moved by compassion, wiped the face of Christ on His way to Golgotha. Miraculously, the image of His face appeared on her veil, known as the Holy Napkin (Mandylion).
Saint Veronica is honored as a symbol of courage, mercy, and faithful love for Christ. The cloth she holds bears the face of Jesus, surrounded by the Greek letters IC XC, meaning “Jesus Christ,” and the cross-inscribed Ω Ο Ν (Omega, Omicron, Nu) – “He Who Is.”
