Theotokos of Tenderness Icon

The Eleousa is among the most beloved Marian icon types in Orthodox tradition, its most renowned example being the Theotokos of Vladimir, brought from Constantinople to Kievan Rus in the twelfth century and revered for centuries as one of Russia’s most sacred images.
