About our icons

BlessedMart offers hand-painted religious icons that follow the Russian, Greek, Byzantine and Roman Catholic traditions. We partner with some of the most experienced iconographers in the country. Artists with more than 20 years of experience in modern iconography. Each and every icon that we sell in our online store is absolutely unique! We take several high quality photos of every icon so that our clients can see exactly what they order.

Materials

Most of our icons are painted on solid natural wood boards (0.8 inch thick). We offer icons painted on MDF boards as well. The rest of the materials used are strongly individual and depend on the techniques used by every iconographer. In most cases they use tempera, oil or powder paints, varak, gold leaf (foil), varnish and other synthetic materials. Following the Byzantine Art traditions, every icon is layered with a linen cloth, glued and hand sanded to a smooth finish.
