Angel of Resurrection Icon

This hand-painted Orthodox icon of the Angel of Resurrection depicts the Angel of the Lord seated beside the empty tomb, proclaiming the mystery of Christ’s Resurrection. The angel is shown in a white garment with magnificent wings, seated before the open tomb where the burial shroud remains as a witness to Christ’s victory over death.

Hand-painted in the Byzantine tradition using egg tempera on solid linden wood, this icon features a 23 karat gold-leaf background. The arched-top panel gives the icon a distinctive form, while the protective varnish helps preserve the painting and its colors.

The scene depicts the Angel at the Empty Tomb, one of the central images associated with the Resurrection of Christ. The angel points toward the empty tomb and the burial shroud, proclaiming the good news of Christ’s victory over death.
