St Anne Holy Mother of Mary

This hand-painted Orthodox icon depicts Saint Anne (also known as Anna, Hannah), the mother of the Most Holy Theotokos and grandmother of Jesus Christ. Together with her husband, Saint Joachim, she is honored as the model of pious parenthood and steadfast faith. According to tradition, their prayers in old age were answered with the gift of a daughter, Mary, chosen to become the Mother of God.
