This hand-painted Saint John the Forerunner Icon presents the holy Prophet and Baptist of Christ in a close and expressive portrait. Saint John is shown with his characteristic long hair and beard, wearing the simple garments traditionally associated with his ascetic life in the wilderness. Painted on a thick natural wood panel and finished with gold leaf gilding and protective varnish, this compact icon is well suited for a personal prayer corner, bedside, office, or travel prayer space.

Iconography and Symbolism:

Saint John the Baptist is the prophet who prepared the way for the coming of Christ. He later baptized Christ in the Jordan River and witnessed the beginning of His public ministry. The long hair and beard of Saint John are characteristic elements of his iconography, reflecting his life of asceticism and prayer in the wilderness. His simple appearance contrasts with the luminous gold background, emphasizing that his spiritual greatness comes not from earthly status but from his prophetic mission and complete dedication to God.
