Iconography and Symbolism

Born in Roman Britain around the year 385, Patrick was carried off into slavery in Ireland as a young man, where years of prayer and hardship deepened his faith. He belongs to the saints of the undivided Church, venerated in Orthodoxy centuries before the Great Schism, and is honored as the Enlightener of Ireland — a shepherd whose endurance in captivity and boldness in mission continue to inspire the faithful.
