Holy Family Icon

This premium Orthodox icon is made using the traditional silkscreen technique on cotton canvas, mounted on solid carved wood. The background features a polished gold gilding effect (burnished mirror finish) for a radiant and reflective appearance.

It includes a leather strap for hanging and a certificate of authenticity. The icon is varnished for long-lasting protection and carefully crafted according to the Orthodox canon.

Iconography & Symbolism
The Holy Family Icon depicts the Virgin Mary, Christ Child, and Saint Joseph the Betrothed — a symbol of divine love, unity, and obedience to God’s will. The Mother of God gently holds the Child, while Saint Joseph is often shown in the background, holding white lilies, a sign of purity and faithfulness, and sometimes two doves, representing peace and the Holy Spirit.

The image reflects both the mystery of the Incarnation and the sanctity of family life, reminding the faithful that Christ Himself was raised in a home filled with love and holiness.

Above the Virgin are the Greek letters ΜΡ ΘΥ (Meter Theou), meaning “Mother of God.” Next to Christ appear IC XC, meaning “Jesus Christ.” The polished golden background symbolizes the divine light that sanctifies the Christian family.

While not tied to a single date, the Holy Family is especially honored during the Feast of the Nativity (December 25 / January 7) and the Synaxis of the Theotokos (December 26 / January 8).
