It depicts Saint Andrew the Apostle (also known as Andrew the First-Called, Andrei, Andreas), the brother of Saint Peter and the first disciple called by Christ. He preached the Gospel widely, including in Asia Minor, Scythia, and Greece, and is considered the founder of the Church of Constantinople.
In iconography, St Andrew is often shown holding a scroll, symbolizing his role as a preacher, or depicted near the X-shaped cross (St Andrew’s Cross) on which he was martyred in Patras, Greece. His image represents mission, faith, and steadfastness in proclaiming the Gospel.
