Diptych – St Patrick and St Brigid of Ireland

Saint Brigid of Ireland (Brigit or Bridget) also called Brigid of Kildare and Saint Patrick Enlightener of Ireland – This is a premium quality icon made with pure 23K gold leaf. Painted using traditional technique – egg tempera, lime wood panel with slats on the back, varnish, 23 karat gold leaf.
St Brigid is depicted holding a Woven Cross, the Holy Fire and Celtic Inspired Crozier.
St Patrick is depicted wearing a Mitre and holdinga shamrock. His Vestment and Gospel book are decorated with Celtic Knotting.

Materials

Most of our icons are painted on solid natural wood boards (0.8 inch thick). We offer icons painted on MDF boards as well. The rest of the materials used are strongly individual and depend on the techniques used by every iconographer. In most cases they use tempera, oil or powder paints, varak, gold leaf (foil), varnish and other synthetic materials. Following the Byzantine Art traditions, every icon is layered with a linen cloth, glued and hand sanded to a smooth finish.
