This is a premium quality icon made with pure 23kt gold leaf. Painted using traditional technique – egg tempera, solid lime wood panel with slats on the back, varnish, 23 karat gold leaf.

Materials

Most of our icons are painted on solid natural wood boards (0.8 inch thick). The rest of the materials used are strongly individual and depend on the techniques used by every iconographer. In most cases they use egg tempera, oil or powder paints, varak, gold leaf (foil), varnish and other materials. Following the Byzantine Art traditions, every icon is layered with a linen cloth, glued and hand sanded to a smooth finish.
