This Orthodox icon is made using the traditional silkscreen technique on cotton canvas, mounted on solid natural carved wood. The background features a polished gold gilding effect (burnished mirror finish), giving the surface a luminous, smooth reflection.
It includes a leather strap for hanging and comes with a certificate of authenticity. The icon is varnished for long-lasting protection and made in accordance with the Orthodox canon.
Iconography & Symbolism
The Christ the Bridegroom Icon (Greek: Ὁ Νυμφίος, “The Bridegroom”) — also known as the Icon of Extreme Humility — depicts Jesus crowned with thorns and clothed in a purple robe, holding a reed in His hand. It represents His Passion, patience, and the divine love through which He redeems humanity.
The title “Bridegroom” expresses Christ’s mystical union with His Church, His Bride. Despite His humiliation, He is shown with a serene and loving expression — a reminder that humility and sacrifice are the path to victory and eternal life.
Above His head appear the Greek letters IC XC, meaning “Jesus Christ.” Within His halo is the cross inscribed with Ω Ο Ν (Omega, Omicron, Nu) – “He Who Is,” proclaiming His eternal divinity even in suffering.

The Christ the Bridegroom Icon is venerated during Holy Week, especially on Holy Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, during the Bridegroom Matins services.
