This hand-painted Orthodox icon depicts Saint Catherine of Alexandria (also known as Ekaterina, Aikaterini, Katerina), the Great Martyr and one of the most celebrated female saints in Christianity. A noblewoman of Alexandria in the 4th century, she was renowned for her wisdom and eloquence, confounding pagan philosophers and defending the Christian faith. For her steadfast witness, she was martyred under Emperor Maxentius. In iconography, she is often shown with a martyr’s cross, a book, and the wheel on which she was tortured.
In the Orthodox calendar, Saint Catherine is commemorated on November 25, a feast kept with great honor throughout the Orthodox world, especially on Mount Sinai, where the Monastery of Saint Catherine is dedicated to her.
The icon of Saint Catherine (Ekaterina, Aikaterini, Katerina) is a cherished gift for students, teachers, young women, and seekers of wisdom. It is also suitable for name days, weddings, and new homes, offering the intercession of a saint known for purity, courage, and wisdom in Christ.
